Pharmaceuticals
The modern pharmaceutical industry produces huge amounts of organic industrial wastewater, especially in manufacturing facilities that use fermentation techniques. The treatment process is exceptionally challenging because of the wastewater’s complex composition, sometimes containing toxic and recalcitrant compounds. For example, the manufacturing process for antibiotics produces highly concentrated organic wastewater that contains residual antibiotics. The GX/HP-UASB reactor system is one of the best solutions for the treatment of pharmaceutical wastewater.
Chemicals & Petroleum
The compositions found in the wastewater of each chemical plant and paper mill vary hugely, so both a thorough understanding of the chemical production process and broad experience in the industry are vital to design a treatment system that addresses the unique properties of each effluent stream. At Woxford, we have a team of dedicated experts and a wide range of technologies to address the most complex of challenges faced by our clients.
Woxford also has successfully incorporated its anaerobic treatment technology in the treatment of petroleum wastewater containing metalworking fluids, coolants and lubricants. This new process combines our enhanced GX/HP-UASB systems with our membrane technologies to develop an efficient wastewater treatment system that significantly increases the effluent’s quality and reduces disposal costs.
Food & Beverage
The wastewater produced by food and beverage companies provides a unique challenge because it is often highly concentrated and biodegradable; in some cases, it may also contain high levels of fats and grease. In these situations, we recommend a biological treatment process that combines our anaerobic, aerobic and membrane filtration technologies to recycle water and reclaim sources of renewable energy.
Textiles & Dyeing
Textiles' manufacturing and clothes' dying processes produce a large amount of chemical wastewater containing highly concentrated organic pollutants. These effluents have the most complex compositions, including inorganic chemicals and organic compounds. Key to the disposal of textiles and dyeing wastewater is removal of organic compounds with low biodegradability, removal of colours, and pH adjustments.
Livestock & Agriculture
The evergreen livestock industry is crucial to our economy; however, it produces copious amounts of solid and liquid organic waste that is not only detrimental to our environment, but also a health hazard when it pollutes local water bodies. Woxford has integrated its anaerobic waste treatment technologies with compost processes in order to develop a sustainable solution for the livestock industry. Our treatment system consumes less energy and is able to convert waste into bio-energy and solid/liquid fertilisers that are vital to the agricultural industry.
Mining & Coal Chemicals
The mining and coal chemical industry produces a large amount of wastewater that contains organic pollutants, heavy metals and various mineral salts at high concentrations. Our proven zero liquid discharge (ZLD) systems combine biological, membrane and evaporation/crystallisation technologies to purify and recycle this wastewater. Valuable resources, such as monovalent and bivalent mineral salts, can also be extracted when required.
Photovoltaics
This modern, clean energy industry causes serious environmental issues in the disposal of wastewater, as gases and hazard wastes are produced in the manufacturing process of polysilicon and photovoltaics (PV) subassembly. The wastewater produced in the production process of polysilicon contains both organic and toxic pollutants at high concentrations, such as tetrachlorosilane, isopropanol and fluorinion, as well as some other acids and alkali. Woxford's core wastewater treatment technology has been provided to YINGLI Group, the world's largest PV company and sponsor of two FIFA World Cups.
