Biogas Desulphurisation System

H2S Removal and Recovery

Hydrogen sulphide (H S) is another gas by-product of anaerobic digestion, in various concentrations ranging from 100ppm to several % v/v in most cases. Removal of H S is obligatory because of health and safety regulations, and to prevent air pollution and the corrosion of gas-burning equipment, such as electricity generators and boilers.

Our biogas desulphurisation and purification technology is a reliable and highly efficient solution for the deep removal of H S at high loading rates and has a proven track record. High-quality sulphur can be recovered in the desulphurisation treatment process as a valuable resource for industrial and agricultural applications.

Applications

Woxford offers a two-stage wet biogas treatment system including biogas desulphurisation, gas storage, and catalyst regeneration. The technology has been successfully deployed in several challenging projects featuring extremely high H S levels in the biogas produced from our anaerobic wastewater treatment system.

Our Innovation Story

3

In the 1990s, Woxford started to employ GX/HP-UASB reactors in projects involving high-strength organic wastewater treatment with great technical challenges, particularly in cases with extremely high sulphate levels over 1,500mg/L, such as fermentation effluents. Anaerobic treatment process could convert the sulphate to hydrogen sulphide in the biogas emission. When treating organic wastewater containing higher sulphate levels, the enhanced performance of our GX/HP-UASB technology produces high levels of H S in resulting biogas – a result previously unattainable in the industry. Biogas desulphurisation demands a high-loading treatment technology which was not available in the market. Thus, the technical founders of Woxford had to develop our own high-loading treatment system for the demands of our clients in terms of treatment efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The technology has been employed in some projects up to around 55g/m  H S. Currently, we are developing a new system capable of biogas desulphurisation up to 150,000ppm H S, and a full-scale installation is underway.
